“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:34
Have you ever watched a concert pianist completely lost in the world of what he is playing? At some point, he had to sit down at a piano for the first time and try to put the three notes together. That was the place where his passion was cultivated.
Did you ever stop to think that the things you really care about are all a result of the things that you have done? Passions and habits of the heart don’t drop out of heaven like bolts of lighting. They are cultivated.
This is one of the great hopes for a marriage in trouble. He says, “Oh, I don’t feel anything for her anymore.” His assumption is: If the feelings are gone, then there is nothing that can be done to bring them back. But your heart will follow your treasure. So invest yourself in her, and see what that does to your heart.
Do your heart feel cold toward God? Do something. Start praying. Don’t wait until you feel like it. If you wait until you feel like it, you may never do it. Start reading good Christian books that are going to shape your understanding of God, and of like and, of truth. Always remember, habit shapes the heart.
