Even Mature Believers Experience This

Asaph is the author of Psalm 73. But who is Asaph? The Bible tells us that he was one of the men King David put in charge of music in the house of the Lord (1 Chronicles 6:39). We might say about him, if he were alive today, “Asaph was a worship leader.”

Asaph was in the procession when David brought the ark to Jerusalem. And when David “appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, to make petition, to give thanks and to praise the Lord, the God of Israel: Alsaph was the chief…”(1 Chronicles 16:4-5 NIV).

Try to imagine Aspah’s situation in life: He was a mature believer and he  was in full-time ministry. He was a godly man, and God had put him in a position of great responsibility. But he came to a point in his life where he almost lost his faith: “As for me, my feet had almost stumbled, my steps had nearly slipped” (Psalm 73:2).

This palm shows us that even established believers sometimes experience times of great crisis, when it seems like everything is falling apart. More than once Asaph has been counselor to one of God’s struggling people. Maybe the Lord will use this man’s experience with God to help bring you through some very dark days in your own life.
